Over the course of my artistic career, stacks of paper have reoccured several times. Originally, I drew stacks of paper imagining all the multitudes of typed documents and drawings that were generated during the 1960's and 1970's conceptual art movements. Later, I stacked full size reams of paper in the library of The Old school on Mott Street, and was considering the physical and monumental possibilities of accumulated sheets. Now, I'm considering these stacks again and still thinking about the utilitarian given of an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper. This standardized space can hold everything from a grocery list to a bureaucratic form to sketch of an idea that will one day change the world.
